As you might imagine, defining
a "theme" running through my art--as well as the "meaning"
of any individual work--is certainly open to the interpretation of the viewer.
Even so, I'd like to share my own view of what I consider my "themes."
These are the overall concepts that I keep in mind when I'm composing and
producing a painting or drawing...
Themes include:
A new look at familiar surroundings: This theme centers around
landscapes and architecture....street scenes, old buildings, back alleys...all
done with a vibrancy suggesting re-birth.
Emotional states, frames of mind made visible-- suggested through floating,
organic shapes (usually red in color). Crafting these shapes or figures is
my way of making something that is not tangible into something that we can
see.
Some of these explore "that which is left behind"--failed evolutions,
lost memories, old states of mind. Others make a comment about the nature
of emotions themselves....thoughts and feelings come together in a palpable
way.
